Chapter 2: Plats

Abstract:

We develop the notion of a `plat', a format for the representation of IC systems that is essential for identifying and measuring differences in their complexity. We discuss some of the analytic options that arise when we construct plats to analyze IC systems in real languages, and we explain and justify our choices with respect to these options.1). We conclude with a discussion of the representation issue, the fundamental question of what plats actually represent.
